Rachel and Matthew - June Wedding at Awbury Arboretum

Last February I received a sweet email from Rachel, letting me know that she had found my work online and was also my neighbor! This happens more and more lately, and it is always a special treat to meet my clients in person, since so many of you live far from Philadelphia. Rachel and Matthew stopped by my house to take a look at my samples, and lucky for me they were not deterred by the chaos that comes with working from home with a four year old “studio mate."

A few weeks ago I was nearly brought to tears when these beautiful images from GraceD Photography arrived in my inbox. Their love and adoration for each other, as well as for their families and loved ones is so evident in every shot.

Rachel and Matthew selected the Geometric Pomegranate design and opted for the hand-painted version. They also chose to customize one of our prepared texts to include their vows. I had a hunch after our first meeting that Rachel and Matthew were a very special couple, but after reading their vows I realized that these two were building a relationship based on the kind of mutual respect, honesty and self-awareness that you don’t see everyday.

Now, as I was, you may be wondering, “Those kittens are just too adorable! But what are they doing at the wedding?” I had to ask Rachel and this is what she told me, “We love our cats Ezra and Leroy so much (both are rescues), but we figured they wouldn't enjoy being a part of all of the wedding commotion. We decided to do the next best thing, and encourage adoption from a local animal welfare society where I've volunteered in the past (and it just so happened that June was Adopt a Shelter Cat Month). PAWS in Old City allowed us to foster a few kittens for the weekend so that our guests could interact with them, learn about adoption, and help us raise some money for the shelter. And the staff at Awbury were totally cool with it!” Isn't that just the sweetest thing you've ever heard?!

Antoine Vestier Themed Styled Shoot at the College of Physicians
The College of Physicians in Philadelphia might not be the first place that comes to mind when planning a wedding reception, but it's a beautiful venue with historic features that you don't see every day! It was the perfect spot for Styled Wedding Shoot inspired by the paintings of Antoine Vestier, rich with lovely blue and pink accents from the Fashion Pantone Color Report for Spring 2017: Pale Dogwood and Lapis Blue.

The College of Physicians also has unique decor with old oak card catalogues and beautiful leaded windows, which adds an elegant and historical touch to really make your wedding stand out.

For this styled shoot, I contributed the calligraphy on the invitations and place settings. Amanda Sanford of An Intentional Event brought her impeccable attention to detail to every facet of the day, and as always it was a joy to contribute calligraphed place cards and signage to compliment her vision.

I hope you enjoy the wonderful photos taken by Ashley Gerrity Photography, and if you'd like to see more, hop over to Dream Weddings where the shoot was featured back in April 2017.

Introducing Guest Artist Alyssa Dennis

In 2017 Tallulah Ketubahs has expanded our ketubah line to include exclusive designs by guest artists. Our first two guest artists are Alyssa Dennis and Katherine Sable. This week I am so happy to share the two beautiful botanical designs artist Alyssa Dennis created for us, the Milkweed Herbal and Dandelion Purslane Herbal ketubahs. The originals were hand-drawn using ink and colored pencil and they are available for purchase as Archival Giclée Prints in limited editions of 15.

Alyssa Dennis lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. She has shown her work internationally in such galleries as Kesting/Ray in New York, White Walls in San Francisco and Ellen Miller Gallery in Boston, MA. She is currently showing work with Gallery 19 in Chicago, Causey Contemporary, NYC and has an upcoming show at the Arlington Art Center, VA. Her work has been featured in Drawing Magazine and New American Paintings, and she has been involved with grassroots community projects like The Music Box Village, The Heliotrope Foundation, and Swale: A Floating Food Forest. I am so thrilled to offer our couples this opportunity to add Alyssa's beautiful work to their art collection.

The focus of Alyssa Dennis's work for the past 10 years has been urban ecologies and environmental advocacy. She is currently working on a new project called Common Knowledge, the goal of which is to promote education on wild edible and medicinal plants, found specifically within the urban landscape, through a visual vocabulary of plant illustrations accessed through interactive and participatory learning tools.

In September, Alyssa will be embarking on an educational quest to become a herbalist and to begin using that knowledge within her art practice and the Common Knowledge project. She has many other projects and collaborations in the works, including an upcoming research trip to Peru. She also enjoys working on special commissions and collaborations.

Alyssa's exclusive designs for Tallulah Ketubahs incorporate her delicate botanical drawings of edible and medicinal wild plants. The specific of plants were chosen for their healing and beneficial properties. Each piece is beautifully rendered and the illustrations pair perfectly with a range of ketubah or Parents' Gift texts.

Introducing Guest Artist Katherine Sable

In 2017 Tallulah Ketubahs has expanded our ketubah line to include exclusive designs by guest artists. Our first two guest artists are Alyssa Dennis and Katherine Sable. This week I am so happy to share the two beautiful hand-painted geometric designs Katherine Sable has created for us, the Stained Glass and Pink Diamond ketubahs. The original designs were hand-painted using designer gouache and they are available for purchase as Archival Giclée Prints in limited editions of 15.

Katherine Sable, an accomplished painter based in Washington, D.C., has exhibited her work widely, including with Hemphill Fine Art and Heiner Contemporary in Washington, D.C. and at Walker Fine Art Center in Virginia. Her work has been reviewed by The Washington Post and Washington City Paper, among others, and she has been featured in The Washingtonian After Hours Blog, and Sharon Butler’s Two Coats of Paint. We are so thrilled to offer our couples this opportunity to make Katherine's beautiful work part of their art collection.

Katherine grew up in rural Southwestern Virginia and moved to Washington, D.C. in 2007, where she received her MFA in 2009 from American University. She also holds a BFA from Virginia Tech, with a concentration in Painting and a minor in Art History, and is the recipient of two Mellon Research Grants.

In addition to her studio practice, Katherine is also co-owner of Etch Design Lab, a collaborative creative studio based on home, business and event design. Katherine is married with three children, and they have a dog named Wrigley, a thirteen-year-old English Shepherd. She enjoys living in the Washington, D.C. suburbs and takes the kids to everything from camping trips to art exhibits and museums in D.C.

Katherine told us that she had a lot of fun designing ketubahs for Tallulah Ketubahs. "Much of the process was very similar and related to my own studio practice, so it felt like a natural extension of my own work. Offering my work in this capacity, during such an important time a couple's life, feels very similar to the gratifying experience of when someone decides they want to collect my work for their private collection." These designs feature Katherine's unique painterly style and exquisite color selections, and the illustrations pair perfectly with a range of ketubah or Parents' Gift texts.

Abigail & Matt - Wedding at the San Francisco Golden Gate Club

Friends, I am so happy to share these stunning images from Abigail and Matt's gorgeous August wedding at the Golden Gate Club in San Francisco. Many of my clients find my work online and so often I don't get a chance to meet them in person. Seeing images of my couples at their happiest, surrounded by best friends and embraced by family members is such a wonderful treat, and gives me a glimpse into the real and beautiful people that they are! Thank you Buena Lane Photography for sharing these wonderful photos with us.
